About lecturer
Prof. Jan Rodriguez Parkitna is Head of the Department of Molecular Neuropharmacology at the Maj Institute of Pharmacology, Polish Academy of Sciences in Kraków; from 2021 to 2025 he served as the Institute’s Scientific Director. His research focuses on the neurobiology of reward, with particular emphasis on the role of the endogenous opioid system in reward processing, reinforcement, and social behavior. His work employs genetically modified animal models and gene expression analyses to uncover molecular mechanisms underlying both therapeutic and adverse effects of psychotropic drugs. He is the Principal Investigator of the Twinning TREPSY project – “Towards New Treatments of Psychiatric Disorders – a Systems-Oriented Approach”, which aims to develop novel therapeutic strategies for psychiatric disorders through a systems-oriented and interdisciplinary research framework. The project is funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme (grant agreement No 10107925). In parallel, he explores the emerging role of artificial intelligence in neuropsychopharmacology.
